LTMS-PIP Phase 2 Generates RM23.06 Mln Revenue As Of April 2026

KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- The Lao PDR-Thailand-Malaysia-Singapore Power Integration Project (LTMS-PIP) Phase 2, Part 1 (Malaysia-Singapore, 100 megawatts (MW)) has supplied 30.6 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity and generated revenue of RM23.06 million as of April 2026.

The Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA) said that under Phase 2, Part 2 of the LTMS, a total of 0.58 GWh of electricity was wheeled through Malaysia's grid system for energy deliveries in January and February 2026.

“No electricity was wheeled in March and April 2026. During the period, total wheeling revenue amounted to RM137,236,” the ministry said on the Parliament website today.

The ministry was responding to Syerleena Abdul Rashid (PH-Bukit Bendera) regarding the latest developments of the LTMS-PIP, which is currently operating at its full capacity of 200 MW, including its electricity transmission performance to date.

She also asked about the findings of feasibility studies for the second Malaysia-Singapore interconnection and the Sumatra-Peninsular Malaysia interconnection, including implementation timelines and implications for energy security.

PETRA said the feasibility study for the second Malaysia-Singapore interconnection project has commenced and is being undertaken by Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), with completion expected in 2027.

The project is targeted to commence commercial operations by 2029 with a capacity of at least 1,000 MW.

“TNB and Indonesia's PT PLN (Persero), in collaboration with the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), are conducting a feasibility study for the development of a proposed electricity link between Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia.

“The study follows a memorandum of understanding signed on Aug 25, 2023, and is expected to be completed by 2027," said the ministry.
