KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- Wasco Bhd has achieved a double win at The Edge Malaysia’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Awards 2024.

In a statement today, the energy solution provider said the company won the silver award for ‘Best Performer in the Energy sector’ and ‘Most Improved ESG Performance Over the Past Three Years’ in the public-listed companies (PLCs) with a market capitalisation between RM800 million and RM5 billion category.

“The awards, presented in collaboration with Bursa Malaysia and FTSE Russell, recognised Wasco’s dedication to incorporating ESG principles into its operations, driving sustainability and continuous improvement within the energy sector,” it said.

Wasco chief strategy officer Ariesza Noor said the awards were a testament to its long-term strategy of responsible growth as the company aligned with evolving industry standards and expectations.

“As we continue this journey, our focus remains on corporate governance, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility with a clear goal of achieving net zero carbon emission by 2026 for Scope 1 and 2.

“The growing importance of ESG in investors’ decision-making reinforces the role sustainability plays in driving corporate performance and long-term resilience,” she said.

The annual awards ceremony was organised by The Edge Malaysia on Oct 14 at the Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur, recognising ESG leaders among Malaysia’s PLCs and asset management firms.

A total of 62 awards were presented to 48 companies, with 370 corporate representatives in attendance.

This year, 779 PLCs were appraised by FTSE Russell for their ESG performance, compared to 356 last year, reflecting the increasing importance of ESG in the corporate landscape.
