LABUAN, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Industrial Training Institute (ITI) Labuan has strengthened its ties with industry players today by signing several strategic cooperation documents with prominent firms in the engineering, oil and gas sectors.

The initiative aims to bolster industrial training opportunities for students and enhance their employability upon graduation.

The institute formalised its partnership with Turcomp Engineering Services Sdn Bhd through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and with Serba Mahir Sdn Bhd via a Memorandum of Cooperation (MOC).

Additionally, ITI Labuan signed nine Letters of Intent (LoI) with various industrial firms, opening doors for students to undergo practical training.

Manpower Department Director-General Datuk Rospiagos Taha, who officiated the signing ceremony today, emphasised the importance of such collaborations, noting that they represent ongoing efforts to align ITI's training programmes with industry needs.

"The collaborations will create greater job prospects for ITI students…by ensuring that our programmes are tailored to industry demands, we are equipping our students with the skills needed to thrive in their respective sectors," he said.

He highlighted the positive impact of these partnerships on the employability rate of ITI graduates.

“The institute's employability rate has increased to 92.4 percent this year, compared to 83.1 percent in 2022,” he said.

The electrical technology programme has seen the highest employability rate at 95 percent, followed by mechanical maintenance technology and welding technology at 93 percent each, and refrigeration and air conditioning at 91 percent.

Rospiagos said these partnerships are expected to ensure that ITI Labuan remains a vital source of skilled talent for Malaysia's industrial sectors, especially in engineering as well as oil and gas.
