KANGAR, Oct 16 (Bernama) -- The Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail has called for a focus on human resource development encompassing leadership, knowledge, and skills by the management of the Royal Ranger Regiment.

His Royal Highness urged the corps leadership to adopt a committed approach in developing a reform plan that ensures personnel are fit for purpose in meeting their duties.

“From the selection process to training and career development, emphasis must be placed on both know-why and know-how.

“I am confident that the corps' ambition to stand proudly as a combat element within an integrated, efficient and focused Future Forces framework can be realised,” he said during the trooping of the colours ceremony of the First and Second Battalions of the Royal Ranger Regiment at Bukit Cowder Camp today.

Also present were the Raja Perempuan of Perlis, Tuanku Tengku Fauziah Almarhum Tengku Abdul Rashid, the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

The Raja of Perlis, who is also the Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Ranger Regiment, has said that the regiment has been closely associated with him for the past 25 years and he noted that the Defence White Paper published five years ago represents a comprehensive government effort to strengthen national defence.

“One of the key strategies emphasised is the establishment of Future Forces that address current needs. This requires a transformation in readiness and response capabilities against various threats.

“Therefore, in line with the needs of the combat element, a comprehensive transformation must be implemented promptly. I wish to stress that this noble desire for transformation must be based on the concept of balance,” His Highness said.

Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin also emphasised that the development and acquisition of modern equipment should go hand in hand with cultivating a first-class mindset among personnel, meaning it is essential to have first-class equipment accompanied by a first-class mentality.

The ceremonial parade included a detachment of escort company and three detachments of guard company, comprising 31 officers and 378 other ranks, led by Commanding Officer of the First Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Salrafeehasliezad Salih and Commanding Officer of the Second Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Faizal Abdul Latiff.

The parade was also accompanied by the Royal Ranger Regiment Band, led by Major Abdul Aziz Abdullah and Captain Mohd Fahmi Harun, with assistance from Band Sergeant Major Warrant Officer 2 Jesson Shuaib and Drum Major Staff Sergeant Shafie Adenan.
