Vietnam's Sugar Industry Leads Southeast Asia In Productivity

HANOI, Oct 17 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Vietnam's sugar industry has led the Southeast Asian region in sugar productivity for the first time, Xinhua quoted the Vietnam News report which cited the Vietnam Sugarcane and Sugar Association on Thursday.

According to the association, Vietnam's sugar yield for the 2023-24 crop reached 6.79 tons per hectare, higher than other key ASEAN producers such as Thailand, Indonesia and the Philippines.

Through technology transfer cooperation programmes and international funding, some sugar companies have started experimenting with new Industry 4.0 solutions from countries like the United States and Australia to digitize the management of sugar mills.

Sugar production nationwide has increased for four consecutive years, with sugarcane output rising by 166 percent and sugar production by 161 percent in the 2023-24 crop compared with the previous crop.

Nguyen Van Loc, the association's chairman, said the country's harvested area of sugarcane and sugar output in the 2024-25 crop would continue to increase compared to the previous crop.
