IPOH, Oct 17 (Bernama) -- A total of RM6 million has been allocated this year to enhance the development training of academics at Polytechnics and Community Colleges (POLYCC) nationwide.

Polytechnic and Community College Education director-general Datuk Dr Mohd Zahari Ismail said that RM3.2 million of this amount is designated for the professional accreditation programme, aimed at producing more lecturers who are experts in their respective fields within POLYCC.

“This professional accreditation programme is entering its fourth phase, and we expect it to be implemented from Nov 25 until Feb 27 next year, focusing on specific fields,” he said.

“It is one of the department's initiatives to ensure that academics are continuously trained in specialised areas, with the goal of enhancing the teaching and learning (PdP) implementation at POLYCC,” he said in his speech at the POLYCC Academy Award (AA POLYCC) ceremony held at a hotel here today.

The ceremony was officiated by the Ministry of Higher Education's secretary-general, Datuk Seri Dr Zaini Ujang, and was attended by 500 guests, including academics and POLYCC staff.

Mohd Zahari said that there are currently approximately 10,500 academics serving at POLYCC, with over 45 per cent holding master's degrees and doctors of philosophy (PhD).

He said that with this strength, he believes that the mission to produce more quality graduates, especially in the field of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) can be realised.

Commenting on today’s ceremony, he said it was organised by the Department of Polytechnic Education and Community Colleges (JPPKK), aimed at giving recognition to academics at POLYCC who have successfully demonstrated excellent performance in the fields of curriculum, research, innovation and PdP.
