KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 (Bernama) -- The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah tonight attended the St John’s Institution Royal Gala Dinner in conjunction with its 120th anniversary at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) here.

His Royal Highness who was a student of the educational institution in 1970, was received upon arrival by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan, Treasury secretary-general Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) chairman Tan Sri Mohamad Salim Fateh Din.

During the ceremony, chairman of Johannians Leadership Foundation Datuk Seri Abdul Azim Mohd Zabidi said the Gala goes beyond mere celebration which is part of a larger mission to not only preserve the legacy of St. John's Institution but also to invest in its future.

“Tonight's programme reflects this dual focus on heritage and progress. We will honour the extraordinary contributions of past and present Johannians, recognising those who have upheld the school's values and achieved great success in various fields.

“We will also take this opportunity to discuss the road ahead for St. John's, sharing some exciting developments that aim to transform the school and keep it at the forefront of education in the 21st century,” he said in his speech.

Meanwhile, he said they are embarking on an exciting new venture - the construction of a state-of-the-art digital library for St John's Institution.

“The new digital library will be a fully modernised space, equipped with smart boards, smart TVs, and desktop computers. We envision it as a hub where students can do their research, collaborate on projects, and explore new ideas.

“Construction of the digital library will begin soon and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2025. We are hopeful that the grand opening of this transformative facility will be graced by the presence of His Royal Highness Sultan Nazrin, which the library will be named after,” he said.
