Latin American Film Festival 2024 Takes Place From Oct 25 To Dec 1, Expanding To Kuching 

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- Movie enthusiasts in three cities in Malaysia can experience Latin American culture on the big screen during the Latin American Film Festival that showcases movies from eight countries beginning from Oct 25 to Dec 1.

According to the statement from the  Group of Latin America Embassies and the Caribbean (GRULAC) in Malaysia, this year, the festival will make its debut in Kuching, while celebrating its 22nd edition in Kuala Lumpur, and its fourth edition in George Town, Penang.

The festival is held in collaboration with Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), and movie fans can enjoy an exciting line-up of captivating titles hailing from Latin America at GSC Mid Valley Megamall, GSC Gurney Plaza, and GSC CityONE Megamall.

“The Latin America Film Festival is set to showcase films across a wide range of genres including comedy, drama, and animations from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay, each with its own riveting storylines,” the statement read.

It added that the Latin American Film Festival is more than just a series of film screenings; it is an event that celebrates the cultural diversity and a platform for fostering dialogue and understanding through the art of cinema.

Each film has been carefully selected to showcase the rich storytelling traditions and vibrant cultures of Latin America, it noted.

Dean of the GRULAC, Brazil Ambassador to Malaysia Ary Norton de Murat Quintella, said the expansion of the event through its debut in Kuching this time highlighted the festival's commitment to reaching broader communities and celebrating the unique voices of Latin American cinema.

“I encourage everyone to attend the festival and enjoy the rich tapestry of storytelling from our countries,” said Quintella. 

The festival will be held at GSC Mid Valley Megamall here from Oct 25 to Oct 27, GSC Gurney Plaza in Penang from Nov 15 to Nov 17, and at GSC CityONE Megamall, Kuching from Nov 29 to Dec 1.

Admissions to all public screenings are free for respective showtimes.   

Movies that will be screened are Mi Obra Maestra (Argentina), O Homem que Copiava/The Man who Copied (Brazil), De Jueves a Domingo (Chile), Los Colores de la Montaña/The Colors of the Mountain (Colombia),  La Muerte de un Burócrata/Death of a Bureaucrat (Cuba), Ilusiones S.A (Mexico), Ainbo: Spirit of the Amazon (Peru) and Temas Propios/Family Album (Uruguay).
