SEREMBAN, Oct 20 (Bernama) -- The Seremban City Council (MBS) has received RM500,000 from the Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) to install permanent decorative lights on Jalan Dato Lee Fong Yee, better known as ‘Rangoli Walk’.

Local Government Development, Housing and Transport Action Committee chairman J Arul Kumar said installing the lights would brighten up and revive the area, enabling various economic activities in the surrounding area to be carried out.

"Works to install the decorative lights are currently underway, and it is expected to be fully completed at the beginning of next month.

"However, the installation of canopies in conjunction with the 2024 Negeri Sembilan Deepavali Carnival has started today, so we are giving way for the carnival first and the lights installation work will continue later," he told Bernama here today.

The Negeri Sembilan Deepavali Carnival 2024 will be held simultaneously in two locations, Taman AST and Jalan Dato Lee Fong Yee, from Oct 21 to 30. The carnival's business hours will be from 6 pm to 11 pm and will involve 170 traders.

The carnival will sell a wide variety of Deepavali essentials, including clothes, sweets, accessories, biscuits, and home ornaments.

Meanwhile, Arul said that the state government would soon apply for additional allocations from the KPKT to install decorative lights in other areas to highlight the state capital's diverse culture and arts.

"We want to make Seremban - Negeri Sembilan’s capital - a lively city, attracting both domestic and foreign tourists," he said.
