South Korea-Malaysia Friendship Concert Celebrates Anticipation Of Elevated Ties

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 (Bernama) -- The South Korea-Malaysia Friendship Concert, held on Tuesday, celebrated the growing ties between South Korea and Malaysia as both nations anticipate the elevation of their relations to a strategic partnership this year.

Hosted by the South Korean embassy here, the concert brought together world-renowned Korean soprano Sumi Jo, Malaysia’s renowned singer, Anuar Zain, and the National Symphony Orchestra of Malaysia, symbolising the cultural exchange and collaboration that form the foundation of the enhanced partnership.

South Korean ambassador to Malaysia, Yeo Seung Bae, said 2024 has marked a new momentum in bilateral relations between the two countries.

“With high-level visits planned, our exchanges have become more dynamic than ever. 

“Bilateral trade has exceeded US$25 billion for three consecutive years, and this concert introduces K-classical music to the Malaysian public, who have long embraced K-pop and K-drama. We are excited to strengthen our strategic cooperation further.”

Yeo said this in his speech on the occasion of the Korean National Foundation Day and Armed Forces Day of South Korea, held here.

The concert featured captivating performances, attended by 900 guests, including Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who was the guest of honour.

Jo also contributed to the event’s significance with a charitable donation to the Selangor Cheshire Home, supporting independent living for people with severe disabilities in Malaysia.

This year marks the 64th year of diplomatic relations between the two countries. 

Malaysia is the third-largest trading partner of South Korea in Southeast Asia.
