KOTA KINABALU, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Two more media practitioners in Sabah, who are battling health problems and facing difficulties in life, received donations from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA today.

The donations were presented by Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin to Bernama stringers, namely Emin Madi, 74, who is encountering difficulties in life, and Ermmah Wati Atan, 45, who is battling cancer.

Nur-ul Afida stated that, to date, a total of 162 individuals, including 17 from Sabah, have benefited from Tabung Kasih@HAWANA since the initiative was launched in April last year,  in conjunction with the National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) celebration.

“Alhamdulillah, today Bernama, on behalf of the Ministry of Communications, delivered donations to two recipients in Sabah and we are striving to meet the requests submitted.

“As the secretariat of the Tabung Kasih@HAWANA, we have broadened the donation criteria to include media practitioners and veterans who have been involved in accidents or affected by natural disasters like floods or fires,” she told Bernama after presenting the donations here today.

Also present were Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj and Sabah Bureau head Fadzli Ramli Fadzli Ramli.

Nur-ul Afida stated that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had approved an additional allocation of RM1 million to support the continuation of the programme.

“We have also received enquiries from a coalition of Malaysian media clubs and committees representing veteran media personnel.

“We will make every effort to collaborate with them in finding veteran media friends or retired practitioners to help them. We hope to extend this assistance to those in need,” she said.
