KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Prince Court Medical Centre (Prince Court) hosted a Pink Polo event in conjunction with Pink October, aiming to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for the National Cancer Society of Malaysia (NCSM) and the Breast Cancer Welfare Association of Malaysia (BCWA).

Held on Wednesday (Oct 23) at the Kuala Lumpur Polo Club (KLPC), the event was attended by breast cancer survivors and advocates.

It featured an exciting polo exhibition match, with proceeds from the sales of exclusive polo jerseys during the event going towards the cause.

The teams were aptly named Prince Court and KLPC, with the latter securing a narrow victory of 5-4.

In a statement, Prince Court said, that as an accredited Oncology Centre of Excellence by the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards International (ACHSI) it plays a leading role in raising breast cancer awareness.

Chief executive officer Dr. Shuba Srinivasan said the medical centre offers emotional, psychological, and holistic medical support for all breast cancer patients, as the diagnosis of the disease changes their lifestyle and also affects their loved ones.

"Our multi-disciplinary breast cancer team has some of the best minds in oncology, radiology, surgery, and nursing, all working together to see patients through this journey which does not end with treatment alone. We aim to make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families through exceptional care and compassion,” she said.

Meanwhile, in the same statement, Pink Unity president, Mahani Kassim highlighted the crucial need for breast cancer survivors’ support groups, not only to share hope but also to inspire more women to prioritise their health through early detection.

KLPC president Johan Indot expressed hopes to continue the Pink Polo tournament in partnership with Prince Court, to strengthen their collaboration in promoting breast cancer awareness.

The Pink Polo event also featured insightful health talks by two of Prince Court’s consultants, Breast and Endocrine Surgeon Dr. Harjit Kaur Perdamen and Breast and Oncoplastic Surgeon Dr Melissa Tan, as well as sharing sessions by breast cancer survivors.
