Five Perish In Tragic Accident Along Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing

KOTA BHARU, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- Five people - three men and two women - died in a tragic accident involving a Nissan lorry and a Perodua Myvi car at Jalan Gua Musang-Lojing this afternoon.

The five deceased were identified as Mohd Junaizi Jusoh, 48, Shazwani Ismail, 39, Farhana Ismail, 35, Muhammad Fakrul Danish Mohd Junaizi, 20 and truck driver G. Mageswara, 53.

A spokesman for the Kelantan Fire and Rescue Department said the fire brigade received an emergency call from the public at 1.25pm and arrived at the scene 15 minutes later to find that five victims of the accident were trapped inside the wrecked car.

"Therefore, rescue work was carried out using special equipment to remove all the victims but they were confirmed dead at the scene by health ministry officials.

"The bodies of the victims have been handed over to the police for further action," he said when contacted today.

Meanwhile, Gua Musang district police chief Supt Sik Choon Foo said the incident occurred at about 11am this morning when the driver of the lorry lost control while going through a curve towards Gua Musang.

Following this, the driver of the lorry crashed and entered into the opposite lane before colliding with a Perodua Myvi car heading towards Cameron Highlands and fell into a gorge.

"All the bodies of the victims were taken to the Gua Musang Hospital for post-mortem while the case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving causing death.

"Members of the public who have information regarding this case are urged to come forward and assist in the investigation by contacting the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Gua Musang District Police Headquarters at 09-9121222 or investigating officer Insp Aida at 012-4027283," he said in a statement tonight.
