KOTA KINABALU, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The National Journalists' Day (HAWANA) 2024 campus tour at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), which took place today, gave students from the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities the opportunity to gain a wider perspective on the journalism world.

Alief Suhairie Asry, 22, said the programme exposed him to becoming a versatile journalist, especially in utilising information technology, in line with current industry needs.

Alief Suhairie, who hails from Kota Marudu, said the programme also indirectly introduced the role of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) in delivering accurate news to the public through various platforms.

"I gained a lot of know-how, such as tips on becoming a journalist, a photographer and producing videos," he told Bernama during today's HAWANA 2024 Sabah Zone Tour.

Also present were Bernama chief executive officer Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin, who is also HAWANA 2024 Working Committee chairman, UMS deputy vice-chancellor (Research and Innovation) Prof. Dr Rosalam Sarbatly and Bernama editor-in-chief Arul Rajoo Durar Raj, who is also the project director for HAWANA 2024.

Nur-ul Afida presented a high-performance computer and a smart television to the faculty's Communication Programme as part of the programme.

Nurafidah Mudding, 22, from Tawau, said the one-day programme had motivated her to be confident in public in her future career.

She said that she found the career of a journalist to be very exciting because it allows one to be informed about current issues around them, adding that the knowledge gained from the programme could be applied in her university coursework.

Mohamad Hafiezan Fiezal Haron, 22, thanked Bernama for choosing UMS to introduce the journalism world to students.

"This programme aligns well with my course at UMS and has given me ideas for industry training next year. I have gained a lot of knowledge from this programme," said the Putatan native.

The students also thanked Bernama for donating the high-performance computer and smart television, which will significantly aid their studies at the faculty.
