TUMPAT, Oct 25 (Bernama) -- The Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) in Kelantan will identify the actual number of hawkers in the state to be registered under the Self-Employed Social Security Scheme (SKSPS) before it is fully enforced next year.
State PERKESO director Nora Yaacob said the organisation was discussing the matter with the local authorities and has held several engagement sessions on it.
"So far, a total of 10,300 self-employed people have contributed to SKSPS in Kelantan, but we do not have the accurate number of hawkers or traders who contribute to this scheme," she told reporters today after the PERKESO-Friendly Networking Programme with Kelantan Media at Pulau Seri Tanjung.
She added that over 170,000 self-employed people had been recorded in Kelantan so far, but the number contributing was minimal, including traders and hawkers at risk of various accidents.
"The SKSPS introduced since 2017 involves contributions as low as RM23.30 per month offering financial support in the event of a work disaster", she said.
The scheme was implemented through the Self-Employed Social Security Regulations (Contribution Rate for Hawkers or Traders) 2024, gazetted on Aug 30, 2024, and took effect on Sept 1, 2024.
