Road Closures Announced Ahead Of Sultan Nazrin Shah's Birthday Run In Kuala Kangsar

KUALA KANGSAR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- A total of 18 roads in Kuala Kangsar will be closed and redirected to accommodate the ‘Larian Hari Keputeraan Sultan Nazrin Shah 2024’ run on Nov 10 held in conjunction with the Perak Ruler’s birthday celebration. 

Kuala Kangsar police chief ACP Heisham Harun said the road closures will begin at midnight on Sunday and will remain in effect until the event concludes.

He said 10 main roads will be fully closed, while eight others will be diverted to ensure smooth traffic flow during the event, which will be graced by Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah.

“The run will be flagged off at Pavilion Square in Kuala Kangsar. Three roads will close at midnight: Jalan Tun Razak, Jalan Kolej Melayu and Persiaran Bendahara. An additional seven roads will close at 6.30 am: Jalan Raja Idris, Daeng Selili, Raja Chulan, Sultan Nazrin Shah (Jalan Taiping), Bukit Chandan, Kangsar, and Jalan Bendahara.

“Vehicles traveling on the Ipoh-Butterworth road towards Sungai Siput will be redirected to Jalan Kuala Kangsar Jamuan Kati, including those coming from Taiping. Additionally, Jalan Manong-Kuala Kangsar  (Jalan Sultan Iskandar Shah) will be diverted to Jalan Dato Sagor," he told a press conference here today.

Heisham said other affected routes include Jalan Bukit Chandan from the Palace towards the Kuala Kangsar clocktower roundabout, which will follow Jalan Bukit Kerajaan. Vehicles from Jalan Bukit Kerajaan heading towards the same roundabout will also be redirected to Taman Chempaka Sari.

“Police will redirect vehicles traveling along Jalan Sayong Tanjung Belanja from Tanjung Belanja towards Kuala Kangsar, requiring them to use the Manong Bridge, subject to vehicle screening.

“Road closures will occur in stages in both directions on Jalan Raja Idris, starting at 6.45 am on Sunday. Heavy vehicle diversions will also be implemented on Jalan Ipoh-Butterworth and Jalan Sayong Tanjung Belanja by the Road Transport Department," he added.

In light of this, the police advised the public to use alternative routes and adhere to all signage and instructions provided.

“We will deploy over 200 personnel for security and traffic control, expecting more than 20,000 visitors, including 12,000 participants in the event.

“Users intending to travel on these roads are encouraged to plan their journeys and cooperate to avoid any inconveniences, ensuring smooth traffic flow in the area,” he said.

The public is also encouraged to utilise the 17 designated parking areas, including those at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Clifford, Kolej Melayu Kuala Kangsar (MCKK), Kuala Kangsar Bus Station, the District Education Office (PPD), Jalan Raja Idris, Jalan Bendahara, Jalan Raja Chulan, Jalan Taiping, Dewan Jubli, District and Land Office, Kuala Kangsar Religious Office, Ridzwaniah Mosque, Kelab Idris, including the swimming pool area and Jalan Bukit Kerajaan.
