JAKARTA, Oct 29 (Bernama) -- The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) have deployed a disaster management team to assist recovery efforts in the Philippines following the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Kristine (Trami) in the Bicol region.
The operation began on Monday, involving 24 personnel and military assets, including Mi-17 helicopters from the Army and H-225M Caracal helicopters from the Air Force.
The TNI Information Centre in a statement said these aircraft will be used for evacuation operations, logistics distribution, and supporting recovery efforts in the affected areas.
“This humanitarian mission is set to last for 14 days, focusing on the evacuation of victims, infrastructure recovery, and the distribution of essential supplies,” said the centre.
The flight plan for the helicopters includes multiple stages, departing from air bases in Bogor, West Java, and Semarang, Central Java.
Initial stops will be in Banjarmasin and Palu, followed by Manado and Davao, before arriving in Legazpi, Philippines, on the third day.
The Philippines’ National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council reported on Monday that at least 97 people have died due to Severe Tropical Storm Trami, which caused flash floods in several regions after bringing heavy rains last Wednesday.
