SEREMBAN, Oct 30 (Bernama) – The Negeri Sembilan Health Department (JKNNS) is conducting an investigation into the claims that well therapy water can treat various diseases, including chronic ones.
Its director, Datuk Dr Harlina Abdul Rashid said the investigation is still in its early stages and her team cannot comment further on the well water's effectiveness.
She said the Rembau District Health Office is conducting a thorough investigation on the environment in relation to this issue, that has garnered widespread interest on social media.
"I am unable to make any further comment; the investigation is ongoing and it is too early to draw conclusions. The investigation is not only by the Health Department but involves other agencies, so we cannot make any comments," she told reporters here last night.
She said this after the Negeri Sembilan-level Integrated Mega Operation of the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) in Dataran Senawang here.
Recently, the use of water from a well in the Rembau area went viral on social media, allegedly using a special treatment technology that claimed to provide health benefits to individuals suffering from chronic diseases such as strokes, nerve problems, nerve inflammation and others.
The Malaysian Ministry of Health (MOH) through application X yesterday responded that it will take serious notice of the matter.
Meanwhile, Dr Harlina said the JKNNS issued 141 notices for various offences in an integrated enforcement operation conducted on 4,376 premises inspected from Oct 1 until yesterday (Oct 29).
She said from the number of notices, a total of 138 notices were issued according to Section 16(2) for smoking in prohibited areas and three notices under Section 17(1) that prohibits minors from smoking, with total compounds amounting to RM34,650.
"A total of 5,092 educational enforcement actions have also been given to the owners or representatives of the premises, with the distribution of 5,092 infographic leaflets related to the provisions under Act 852."
She said the operation conducted in the Seremban district involved 172 enforcement officers from various enforcement agencies.
Dr. Harlina also said that in addition to installing no smoking signs, business premises owners are also advised to store cigarettes and vapes for sale in closed cabinets, no longer selling them openly as they do now.
"Currently, we are only conducting educational advocacy for all premises owners who sell smoking equipment, and they need to make the necessary modifications (according to the regulations of Act 852) before the full enforcement date of April 1, 2025," she added.
