SEPANG, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- A rear-brake issue left national Moto2 wildcard rider Khairul Idham Pawi ending up with the slowest time in the practice 1 session of the 2024 Malaysian Motorcycle Grand Prix (GP) at the Sepang International Circuit here today.
The PETRONAS MIE Racing RW rider said the break problem, which he encountered after the second lap, saw SuperKIP, as he's more popularly known, remaining in the 32nd and last position with a time of 2 minutes and 10.045 seconds (s).
"Although early in the second lap I improved my time compared to the morning (free practice) session, my bike began having rear-brake problems, causing me to struggle with braking throughout the session,” he told reporters here today.
In the morning free practice session, Khairul Idham clocked 2:10.195s to be placed in the 32nd spot.
Meanwhile, another national wildcard rider, Muhammad Helmi Azman, also representing the same team, was satisfied with his performance as he managed to clock a personal best time at the circuit.
Helmi came in 29th fastest in 2:08.727s in practice 1 to better his previous best time of 2:10.112s set in the qualifying round here last year.
Earlier, the 24-year-old also ended the free practice session in 29th position by clocking 2:09.550s.
