KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) – Maxis Bhd will engage with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to understand the rationale for the recent decision on the 5G dual network.

In a statement today, the telecommunications company “will consider its options” after discussing with all stakeholders.

MCMC recently announced that U Mobile Sdn Bhd has been selected to implement the country’s second 5G network after a detailed technical and commercial evaluation.

Maxis said as a homegrown company, led by Malaysians and with 77 per cent of its shares owned by Malaysians, the company has always had the people and the nation’s best interests in mind.

"We are deeply committed to the long-term development of Malaysia, and to ensuring that our nation shares in the benefits of 5G and the digital economy," it said.

As a strong advocate for the dual 5G network model, Maxis said the company has submitted a comprehensive technical and commercial proposal in response to MCMC’s invitation to tender for the second 5G network.

"With Maxis’ robust network infrastructure and know-how, our 5G network would have taken far less time and resources to cover the same percentage of populated areas that the first 5G network covered. We would also have provided in-building 5G coverage in those areas," it said.

Maxis also reassured customers that they would continue to enjoy  5G services through its existing access agreement with Digital Nasional Bhd even as it continues to explore its 5G options and engage with the stakeholders.

"We remain steadfast in our commitment to provide top-notch value and service to our customers," it said.
