MELAKA, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- UTeM will honour its largest graduating class in history at its 20th Convocation Ceremony, scheduled for Nov 9 to 11 at the Chancellor Hall of its main campus in Durian Tunggal.
UTeM Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr. Massila Kamalrudin announced that 3,459 graduates will be celebrated, comprising 120 PhD recipients, 159 Master’s degree graduates, 2,683 Bachelor’s degree graduates, and 497 diploma holders.
“This year, UTeM celebrates its largest graduating class in history, with a record number of PhD graduates as well.
“This increase has also raised the proportion of UTeM graduates in Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes to 70.3 percent, up from 68 percent last year,” she said in a statement today.
Massila added that this year, UTeM is introducing a new award, the TEJA Award, to recognise an outstanding female graduate who has brought distinction to the university in various fields.
She explained that the criteria for the award encompass academic and career development, leadership, ethics and spirituality, volunteerism and community service, culture and national identity, sports and recreation, as well as technical and innovation achievements.
"The TEJA Award is a continuation of the TUAH Award, previously given to outstanding graduates at UTeM’s past convocation ceremonies.
"The TEJA Award is also one of UTeM's key awards, alongside the Royal Education Award, Chancellor’s Award, Vice Chancellor’s Award, Industry Award, Industry Excellence Award, and the Special Huffaz Professional Award," she added.
She noted that 78 graduates will receive these prestigious awards during the first session on the opening day of the convocation ceremony.
She also shared that UTeM has secured special sponsorships from several industry partners, which will support the Industry Excellence Award and Industry Award for graduates selected as top achievers by the industry.
