Sabah Pan Borneo Highway Phase 1A Reaches 78 Pct Progress - Nanta

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- The physical progress of the Sabah Pan Borneo Highway (LPB) Phase 1A project stands at 78 per cent and is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2026, said Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He added that Phase 1B of the project has reached 2.4 per cent progress, with completion set for 2029.

“Phase 1, covering an estimated total distance of 706 kilometres (km), is divided into 35 work packages, with 16 packages under Phase 1A and the remaining 19 packages under Phase 1B,” he said when winding up the debate on the Supply Bill (Budget) 2025 at the policy stage for the Works Ministry (KKR) in the Dewan Rakyat today.

Regarding the Sarawak–Sabah Link Road (SSLR) project, Nanta, who is also the Kapit Member of Parliament, said Phase 1 of the SSLR project involving the Lawas-Long Lopeng intersection has been implemented since August 2021.

“The project alignment stretches from Kampung Gelugus, Lawas, to the Long Lopeng intersection, covering an estimated 77 km. The project has reached 40 per cent on-site implementation as of October 2024 and is expected to be completed by November 2026,” he said.

Meanwhile, Nanta said that 79 new motorcycle shelters along highways had been constructed this year, bringing the total number to 472.

In an effort to successfully implement the Low Carbon Mobility Development Plan 2021-2030, he said 30 more electric vehicle charging points would be installed at 12 key locations along highways bringing the total to 90.

Nanta said KKR was always working with the industry to increase the number of electric vehicle charging points at rest and recreation (R&R) areas, lay-bys, and strategic locations along highways, aiming to make vehicle charging more accessible and help meet energy consumption and greenhouse gas reduction targets by 2030.
