KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) -- Prasarana Malaysia Bhd (Prasarana) today signed a collaboration agreement with the International Association of Public Transport (UITP), officially designating Prasarana as a Regional Training Centre (RTC).

The agreement also places Prasarana as the second RTC in the Asia-Pacific region after Australia and the 10th worldwide under the aegis of the UITP.

Prasarana president and group chief executive officer Mohd Azharuddin Mat Sah said the recognition empowers Prasarana to reinforce its role in further expanding the public transport sector across Malaysia and neighbouring regions.

“As an RTC, Prasarana is now at an advantage, to not only develop internal human capital but also benefits the entire public transport ecosystem in Malaysia and also the Asia-Pacific region.

“This recognition also helps to increase our national profile within the public transport industry,” he told reporters after the signing ceremony with UITP secretary-general Mohamed Mezghani here today.

Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah also witnessed the signing ceremony.

Meanwhile, Mezghani noted that Prasarana’s selection as an RTC was based on its proven track record in managing and operating Malaysia’s public transport infrastructure.

He highlighted that the company’s success in deploying large, complex transit systems, as well as its commitment to safety, innovation and sustainability in public transport, made the company an ideal candidate for the recognition.

“As a company with strong institutional support, Prasarana has the resources and capability to provide high-quality training to professionals in the region,” he added.
