KUANTAN, Nov 12 (Bernama) -- Raub and Lipis have fully recovered from floods, with eight temporary relief centres housing 441 victims from 127 families closed today.
The Raub District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) secretariat said the floods, which began last Sunday, led to the opening of six centres accommodating 223 victims from 66 families.
“Weather conditions have improved, and the floodwaters started receding gradually by yesterday evening. Evacuees were allowed to return home at 9 am today. However, residents are advised to stay alert for potential rises in river levels,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, the Lipis JPBD secretariat said that two centres opened yesterday to shelter 218 victims from 61 families will be closed in stages today.
“Sekolah Kebangsaan Kechaui Tui, which housed 133 people from 34 families, is expected to close by 10 am, while Dewan Semai Bakti Felda Kechaui, accommodating 85 individuals from 27 families, is set to close by noon,” it said.
Media previously reported that Raub was the first district affected by floods following the northeast monsoon season, followed by Lipis.
