GEORGE TOWN, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- Two eateries in the South West district here were ordered to be closed immediately for poor hygiene, following an on-site check whereby the Penang City Council (MBPP) cited the discovery of rat droppings and a filthy kitchen floor.

MBPP said the two premises were given a 14-day closure notice by its Licensing Department which carried out hygiene inspection and licence-monitoring operations on retail and food business shops today.

“In an operation enforced by 12 officers from the Licensing Department, seven premises were inspected and two were ordered to be closed for 14 days with immediate effect due to the discovery of rat excrement, low scores and an unclean kitchen floor,” said the MBPP statement.

MBPP said three compound notices were also issued following two eateries failing to submit proof of anti-typhoid injection (for workers) while another notice was for the offence of placing raw food less than 20 centimetres (cm) from the floor.

According to MBPP, all operators and workers in the grocery and food business were also briefed on the hygiene standards and guidelines set by the local authority.
