Seven Longhouses, Institutions Benefit From Kampung Angkat Madani Project In Sarawak

KUCHING, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- Seven longhouses, a primary school and a vocational college in Lubok Antu and Betong districts of Sarawak have benefited from the Kampung Angkat MADANI Project implemented by the Accountant General’s Department of Malaysia (JANM).

The handover of these projects was officiated by Accountant-General Nor Yati Ahmad at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Nanga Tebat, Lubok Antu, about 250 kilometres from here, today, according to a statement from JANM.

“The project, which began in March 2024, aims to enhance basic facilities and improve infrastructure in rural areas, bridging the gap between urban and rural communities,” the statement read.

Besides SK Nanga Tebat, other recipients include Betong Vocational College, Rumah Panjang (Rh) Entebang Nanga Belaie, Rh Liman Legan Nanga Entalau, Rh Gaerddrick Lidong Asal, Rh Jelanie Nanga Darai, Rh Mulok Nanga Kujuh and Rh Unya Jambu Lalang.

The project involves upgrading works such as the installation of solar lights, water pumps, roof repairs, fence construction and the provision of sports facilities at the school and vocational college.

In her speech during the event, Nor Yati highlighted the importance of collaboration among various government agencies in addressing infrastructure challenges in rural areas and praised the successful implementation of the project, which has made significant progress.

The programme also aims to improve the quality of life for rural residents, empower the local economy and ensure better access to essential facilities such as water, electricity and roads.
