LUNDU (Sarawak), Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry (KPWKM) is planning to establish another KafeTEEN Youth Centre in Kuching to provide teenagers with more opportunities to participate in meaningful and enriching activities.

Its minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri said Sarawak’s existing KafeTEEN centres in Sri Aman and Long Bedian have successfully organised various programmes that have been well-received by local youths.

“It seems we need to create more KafeTEEN centres as they offer young people a valuable space to socialise among themselves. InsyaAllah, we may start with Kuching, as we are considering a new office there that could serve as the next KafeTEEN centre,” she said.

Nancy was speaking to reporters after attending the ‘Kasih Keluarga Camp’ programme and the 2024 National Family Month celebration for Sarawak at Pantai Pugu here today.

She said the KafeTEEN programme provides teenagers with opportunities to express themselves and acquire skills in various areas, including entrepreneurship and social activities.

She said the activities allow teenagers to learn and share knowledge, such as preparing and selling food, which helps develop their entrepreneurial talents.

Nancy also said that these centres provide a safe environment for teenagers, easing parental concerns about their children venturing into potentially unsafe spaces as the centres offer productive after-school activities that encourage positive personal growth.

Since its inception in 2017, the KafeTEEN programme has served as a platform for teenagers to discuss issues, share experiences and access information on topics such as mental health, social relationships, education and self-development.

It also facilitates interactions with experts and mentors in various fields, further enriching the learning experience.

On the today’s programmes, Nancy said it is aimed at fostering closer relationships within the community, promoting family values and strengthening the bond between families and the broader society.
