UN Security Council To Hold Session On Ending War And Securing Lasting Peace In Middle East

NEW YORK, Nov 17 (Bernama-WAFA) -- The UN Security Council is set to hold a briefing session on Monday on the situation in the Middle East.

According to Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) the briefing titled “Ending the War and Securing a Lasting Peace”, will be chaired by UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy.

The Council is set to hear a briefing from the Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, it added.

The UK, which chairs the Council this month, has prepared a concept note for Monday’s session, which states that ending the war in the Gaza Strip and Lebanon, and focusing on ensuring a broader regional calm through an end to the conflict.

According to the concept note, the session provides an opportunity to reflect on how the Council can “inject renewed momentum into efforts to end conflicts in the region, and to discuss how the end of the conflict could represent a turning point that would put the region on the path to a stable and secure future based on a two-state solution.”
