KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- A combination of steely determination and creativity by students of Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP), Seri Iskandar led to Perak emerging victorious in the adult category (18 years and above) at the National-Level Aerobic Dance Competition today.
The dancers, under the auspices of Kelab Interbeatz, stole the show with not only their attire - yellow, black and white representing the Perak flag - but also an energetic performance to collect 12.2 points for victory, with Perlis (11.6 points) and Sarawak (11.3 points) finishing second and third respectively at the Datum Jelatek Shopping Centre in Ampang here.
Perak coach Aminuddin Razif Arman, 20, said they began training seriously after the 2024 Higher Education Institution Games (SUKIPT) ended in September.
"After the SUKIPT ended, we found new energy to continue our aerobic dance and we fielded the same lineup of dancers from SUKIPT.
"We are all dancers with the club (Interbeats), which is a modern dance club in UTP. So, we already had the basic skills and from there we worked on our choreography to produce the dance that clinched us the title,” he said.
Meanwhile, Johor scored 12.6 points to clinch the teenage category (Under-17) ahead of Pahang (11.9 points) and Melaka (11.8 points).
The competition, organised through the Ministry of Youth and Sports by the State Youth and Sports Department (JBSN), offered a total of RM24,000 in prize money, with the adult category winners taking home RM4,000, runners-up RM3,500, third-placed RM3,000 and fourth-placed RM2,500.
The teeenage category winners pocketed RM3,500, runners-up RM3,000, third-placed RM2,500 and fourth-placed RM2,000.
Also present at the competition were Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, Youth and Sports Ministry secretary-general K. Nagulendran and JBSN director-general Azura Abidin.
