KOTA KINABALU, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Component parties of the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), as coalition partners, must strengthen their good relations for the sake of unity and shared excellence, said its chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
Hajiji, who is also Sabah Chief Minister, said the eight parties that form the GRS, including the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), represent the largest political coalition in the state at present.
He said the coalition has already demonstrated unity and strength in their struggle, reflecting the readiness, unity, and solidarity of the people of Sabah in fighting for the rights of the state and its diverse population, made up of various ethnicities, languages, cultures, and religions.
“"Therefore, I invite my friends in LDP, as members of the GRS component parties, to consider the larger framework of our struggle in every movement and action," he said in his speech at the LDP congress and election here today.
However, Hajiji noted that GRS is also facing challenges with various slanders and tactics from irresponsible parties aiming to bring down the government under the leadership of GRS and PH plus.
He said all the lies and slanders being spread must not only be denied but also dismantled to prevent the people from being deceived or manipulated by the provocations of those attempting to bring down the government through dirty and immoral means.
"I am confident that LDP can play an important role in containing and combating all the propaganda and dirty tactics being spread by the opposition," he said.
Meanwhile, LDP president Datuk Chin Su Phin said the party has always given full support to GRS, led by Hajiji, to ensure LDP's success in the upcoming state election.
He said with this support, Sabah will continue to have greater autonomy to protect the interests of the state, ensure its voice is heard, and meet its needs.
"Our mission now is to show our sincerity in gaining the trust of the people, and it is important to field candidates who can win and gain the support of the people," he said.
The component parties of GRS are Gagasan Rakyat, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR), United Sabah National Organisation (USNO), Parti Harapan Rakyat Sabah (PHRS), LDP and Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS).
