PUTRAJAYA, Nov 19 (Bernama) -- Local bubble tea chain Tealive has become the first company in the country to support the ‘Jom Kosong’ Campaign, said Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Deputy Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh.

In a statement today, she said through the campaign, RM0.20 from every sugar-free drink sold would be donated to the Tealive School Meal Aid Fund and channelled to Yayasan Didik Negara to provide free school meals for students from the B40 income group.

Fuziah added that Tealive aimed to raise RM3.5 million within a year to fund one million meals for students in need.

“This noble effort not only encourages people to reduce their sugar intake but also contributes to the welfare of underprivileged children,” she said.

Fuziah said the ‘Jom Kosong’ campaign, led by the Ministry of Health (MOH), was launched to support the ‘War on Sugar’ movement launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Sept 8.

“This campaign will help raise public awareness about maintaining health and preventing diseases caused by excessive sugar intake, a contributing factor to the rising cases of obesity in the country,” she said.

According to Fuziah, the campaign, which did not involve government funding, has also garnered support from industry players in the food and beverage and retail sectors, including the Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia, the Malaysian Muslim Restaurant Owners Association, the Malaysia Retail Chain Association, and the Federation of Malaysian Business Associations.
