KOTA KINABALU, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- Sabah FC are scrambling to find a temporary replacement for Datuk Ong Kim Swee after the coach decided not to extend his contract with the team when it expires on Nov 30.
Sabah FC general manager Mohd Joh Wid said the search for a replacement was crucial for the continuity of the team’s performance in the remaining fixtures of this season’s Super League and Malaysia Cup competitions.
“The Sabah FC management accepts Datuk Ong Kim Swee’s application not to extend his contract as head coach with the club,” he said in a statement today.
He said the Sabah Football Association (SAFA) and Sabah FC had previously agreed to extend Kim Swee’s contract until the end of the 2024/2025 season in April next year, following the former national coach's impressive performance with Sabah.
“He has taken Sabah FC to the third position in the Super League standings and guided the team to qualify for the AFC Cup last year,” he said.
Yesterday, Kim Swee confirmed that tomorrow’s Round of 16 Malaysia Cup match against PT Athletic FC would be his last as Sabah FC coach.
