SHAH ALAM, Nov 25 (Bernama) -- Padi farmers in Selangor are encouraged to register for Skim Takaful Tanaman Padi (STTP) as a form of protection in case their crops are destroyed by disasters or plant diseases.
State Infrastructure and Agriculture Committee chairman Izham Hashim said currently, only 330 out of more than 9,000 pade farmers in the state are registered under the crop takaful scheme.
“In September, STTP was introduced as an improvement to protect against crop damage due to natural disasters such as floods, with coverage up to RM3,000 per hectare per season, and for pest and plant disease attacks up to RM1,500.
“At present, Agrobank is disseminating information about STTP to farmers and relevant agencies,” he said in response to a question from Sallehen Mukhyi (PN-Sabak) about weather phenomena, bund breaches, and their impact on farmers during the Selangor State Assembly sitting today.
Izham further explained that all disasters related to rice cultivation, including floods, droughts, and pestilence, must be reported to the Northwest Selangor Integrated Agricultural Development Area (IADA) and the Department of Agriculture for investigation, verification, and confirmation before being approved by the state and federal disaster committees.
He added that aid distribution would be carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (KPKM).
