MISC, Gentari To Develop Clean Ammonia Shipping Solutions By 2027

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- MISC Bhd and Gentari Sdn Bhd have forged a partnership to explore the development of integrated shipping and floating solutions for clean ammonia, with a targeted completion date as early as 2027.

The two companies formalised their collaboration through a strategic agreement, with Gentari represented by its subsidiary Gentari Hydrogen Sdn Bhd.

“Leveraging MISC’s shipping and floating solutions expertise with Gentari’s focus on clean hydrogen and ammonia production, this partnership represents a shared commitment to deliver end-to-end solutions that streamline the clean ammonia value chain while setting new benchmarks for sustainable energy transportation,” they said in a joint statement.

The companies said that through a comprehensive joint study, this strategic collaboration aims to strengthen the infrastructure needed for ammonia transportation, enabling the broader energy sector to meet the demand for alternative energy sources.

The tie-up also aims to offer end-to-end logistics, transportation, and infrastructure solutions for clean ammonia, a vital component of the future energy mix, particularly for sustainable power generation and industrial applications.

MISC president and group chief executive officer Zahid Osman said the solutions the parties are developing with Gentari Hydrogen will be game-changing for the maritime industry, offering integrated approaches that enhance efficiency and reduce carbon emissions.

Meanwhile, Gentari chief hydrogen officer Michele Azalbert said that “by developing innovative ammonia shipping solutions, we are addressing critical infrastructure needs and paving the way for ammonia to become a key energy carrier in the global transition towards a sustainable future.”
