PUTRAJAYA, Nov 29 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has extended its support to Lebanon through a contribution of RM1.5 million for humanitarian assistance, underscoring the nation’s continued solidarity with the people of Lebanon and peace-building efforts.
According to a statement by the Foreign Ministry, the cheque was handed over by Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan to Lebanese ambassador to Malaysia, George Bitar Ghanem, during a ceremony here on Friday.
The contribution fulfils Malaysia’s pledge made during a meeting between Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati on the sidelines of the Extraordinary Joint Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on Nov 11, the ministry said.
“The contribution symbolises Malaysia’s continued solidarity with the people of Lebanon. With winter approaching, it is hoped that the assistance will support and expedite the recovery process, particularly in areas affected by the Israeli attacks.
“Malaysia remains committed to contributing to international humanitarian initiatives in supporting peace-building efforts in conflict zones,” the statement read.
