GENEVA, Nov 30 (Bernama-WAFA) --  Ajith Sunghay, the UN Human Rights Office representative for the occupied Palestinian territories, stated Friday that the United Nations has been unable to deliver any humanitarian aid to northern Gaza due to repeated refusals by Israeli authorities to allow aid convoys to pass.

According to Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) during a weekly press conference at the United Nations office in Geneva on Friday, Sunghay emphasised the severe humanitarian crisis in Gaza, warning that the population is facing the imminent threats of hunger, disease, and death.

He noted that approximately 70,000 people are still trapped in northern Gaza, unable to receive vital supplies.

“The UN is unable to send any humanitarian assistance to northern Gaza because Israeli authorities have consistently blocked or refused the passage of aid convoys,” Sunghay explained.

He stressed the urgent need for humanitarian assistance and called on Israel to allow the safe delivery of aid to the region.

Meanwhile another WAFA report the World Food Programme (WFP) said all bakeries in the central Gaza Strip have been forced to close due to a severe shortage of supplies.

In a statement on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday, the WFP said bread, which had often been the only food source for many families in Gaza, is now out of reach for residents. The organization warned that this critical shortage is exacerbating the already dire humanitarian crisis in the region.

The WFP urgently called for the safe and unhindered delivery of vital humanitarian aid to Gaza, stressing the importance of ensuring access to essential supplies for the struggling population.
