KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 30 (Bernama) -- The five-month Agromarketing Masterclass programme jointly organised by the Federal Agricultural Marketing Authority (FAMA) that began in June managed to rake in sales of RM4 million, far exceeding the set target of RM3 million.

FAMA director-general Abdul Rashid Bahri said the programme, which was joined by 160 participants from 80 companies, had offered 425 agrofood products throughout its implementation.

"We achieved a sales value of RM4 million and recorded over 620,000 minutes of broadcasts, 3.5 million views, with e-commerce content produced gaining 17 million views in total. I’m optimistic those involved will continue selling through TikTok Shop and will achieve more success in the future,” he told reporters at the Agromarketing Masterclass: TikTok Shop Edition programme and Grand Final of the Live Streaming Contest award ceremony.

A total of 13 persons with disabilities (PwD) joined the programme and managed to rake up sales of RM286,000 in 1,500 live sale sessions on TikTok Shop.

Based on the programme’s success, Abdul Rashid said FAMA and TikTok Shop will organise the programme again in the second quarter next year to help more entrepreneurs expand their businesses.

Meanwhile, TikTok Shop Strategics Communications Director Nur Azre Abdul Aziz expressed her hope that similar programmes would help more entrepreneurs expand their businesses.

"We are so proud with the entrepreneurs involved, especially from the small and medium industries, where they have never done live or are shy (when in front of the camera) but now are among the top five finalists and also champion.

"Our hope is that we can reach out to more rural areas as there are entrepreneurs doing live streaming from their own farms. We want to help more entrepreneurs through a more structured and consistent marketing platform,” she added.

Programme participant Wan Habsah Wan Ahmad, 50, who is also known as Chef Ustazah HQ on TikTok Shop, with her food products like nasi arab, sauces, and food seasonings, won the Best Overall Entrepreneur award, something of an achievement for her as she started from scratch in the online marketing field.

"In the past, I couldn’t even find the end live button, but now my sales can reach thousands of ringgit a day, compared to RM30 previously. If before, I used my car to buy raw ingredients, now business is booming till suppliers send the stuff to the factory,” she said.

Meanwhile, former engineer Amir Mohsin Mohd Bahrudin, 35, won the 2024 Live Streaming Grand Finals, thanks to his determination to stream between 12 to 17 hours daily on his account, Dapur Pak Amir on TikTok Shop.

He started out by selling various types of sambal and dried meats after being involved in an accident six years ago that left him disabled, and he expressed his pride in being able to hire even more workers as demand for his products shot up.

"I managed to boost my sales five-fold, till I needed to get five more workers. The demographics of my customers are expanding, not only in Malaysia, but there are also buyers from Singapore,” he said.

Eight categories of awards were contested, including Best New Entrepreneur, Best Food Entrepreneur, Best Non-Food Entrepreneur, Best Frozen Product Entrepreneur, Best New PwD Entrepreneur, Inspiring Entrepreneur, Best Overall Entrepreneur and Top 5 2024 Live Streaming Grand Finalists.
