KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 1 (Bernama) -- The Department of Orang Asli Development (JAKOA) has allocated RM246,600 for food supplies to ensure prompt assistance for Orang Asli communities in flood-prone areas during the northeast monsoon season.
Its director-general, Datuk Sapiah Mohd Nor, said 1,644 food baskets had been prepared, with appointed vendors on standby to deliver aid when required.
“Each food basket contains essential items such as rice, soy sauce, cooking oil, sugar, salt, coffee, biscuits and canned food,” she told Bernama.
She said that JAKOA, in collaboration with agencies like the Social Welfare Department, acts as a forward base for flood relief efforts.
“In situations where agencies encounter difficulties delivering aid to Orang Asli villages, JAKOA will provide full support to ensure assistance reaches those in need.
“For remote areas, JAKOA collaborates with relevant agencies, including the Fire and Rescue Department, to deliver supplies via helicopter when road access is disrupted by floods,” she said.
