KOTA BHARU, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- The floods in Kelantan have affected 49 health facilities in eight districts, said State Health Department Director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin.

He said the health facilities included 21 in Pasir Mas, seven in Tumpat, six in Kuala Krai, five in Tanah Merah, three each in Pasir Puteh and Machang and two health clinics each in Bachok and Kota Bharu.

He said some of the facilities concerned were cut off due to flooded roads and immediate measures were taken by moving the health services to the facility closest to the affected areas.

"A few hospitals were also affected by the floods, but so far no hospital has closed its operations because the flood water receded on the same day," he told Bernama here.

Dr Zaini said some health workers were also flood victims and not able to go to work due to flooded roads.

"For worst-hit areas such as Rantau Panjang and Pasir Mas, our staff are sent using various vehicles including trucks and boats with the help of various disaster management agencies to the affected locations, " he said, adding that the state health department would seek the assistance of the Health Ministry’s staff in other states in the event of an unexpected flood.
