IPOH, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) and Edra Power Holdings Sdn Bhd (Edra) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at fostering innovation, talent development, and sustainable energy solutions.
UTP in a statement said the collaboration marks a significant milestone, demonstrating a shared commitment from both organisations to research, academic excellence, and industry collaboration.
The MoU was signed by UTP Vice Chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib and Edra Executive Chairman Jiang Xin.
"This partnership aligns with our shared vision of developing future energy leaders and driving innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
"By combining UTP's research and academic strength with Edra's expertise, we will empower our students to become the next generation of energy leaders and contribute to a more sustainable world, benefiting both our institutions and the broader community," said Mohamed Ibrahim.
The statement also noted that as part of this partnership, Edra will launch its existing Edra Power Holdings Young Talent Programme, facilitated by Yayasan UTP in 2025, to advance human capital development.
"This programme will provide scholarships and apprenticeship to UTP students, offering valuable opportunities for practical experience while contributing to Edra's sustainable energy goals," said the statement.
Meanwhile, commenting on the initiative, Jiang Xin said, the initiative is a key step in strengthening Malaysia's higher education and employability landscape, aligning with the Malaysia Education Blueprint 2015–2025.
"Through real-world working environments at Edra’s power plants, students can apply their academic knowledge, gain hands-on experience with advanced technologies, and develop the skills needed for successful careers," he said.
In addition, to the Young Talent Programme, UTP students will have internship and career opportunities in Edra.
UTP has also collaborated with Edra on technical talks and explored potential opportunities for Edra employees to enrol in UTP's academic programmes as part of Edra’s talent development initiatives.
Both organisations will also explore opportunities for joint research projects and innovation initiatives to address global challenges in the energy sector, focusing on areas such as renewable energy, energy efficiency, and digital technologies.
