PERAK FULLY RECOVERS FROM FLOODS, SITUATION IN PAHANG IMPROVING

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 14 (Bernama) -- The flood situation in Perak has fully recovered with the last relief centre in Manjung closed this evening, while Pahang is gradually recovering, and the number of evacuees in Johor remains unchanged as of 8 pm.

In PERAK, the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) Secretariat said that the final relief centre, SK Beruas, which had housed 186 evacuees from 57 families, was closed at around 6 pm.

The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) reported that the water level at Sungai Rui in Hulu Perak remains at the warning level of 165.67 metres (m), while Sungai Perak in the Pasang Api area of Bagan Datuk is at the alert level, with a depth of around 1.95 m.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has forecast continuous rain at the alert level in the Hulu Perak area.

In PAHANG, the flood situation is improving, with the SK Bukit Gemuruh relief centre in Bera closing at 5.10 pm. Only Maran remains affected, with 11 evacuees from four families housed at the Balairaya Kampung Baru Pertanian relief centre.

A check on the DID’s Public Info Banjir portal showed that two main rivers in the state have exceeded the warning levels: Sungai Pahang at Lubuk Paku, Maran, and Sungai Pahang at Kuala Sungai Chini, Pekan.

In JOHOR, JPBN chairman Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani reported that the number of evacuees remains at 36 people from 11 families, all sheltered at the Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak relief centre in Segamat.

He also noted that the water level at Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap, Segamat, has exceeded the warning level and remains at 8.82 m, while Sungai Muar at Jeti Kampung Tekam in the same district is at the alert level with a height of 3.29 m.

Weather forecasts indicate clear skies in Johor Bahru, Muar, Mersing, Pontian, Kluang, Batu Pahat, and Tangkak, while Kota Tinggi and Kulai are expected to be cloudy, and Segamat is forecast to experience rain tonight.
