MICCI Launches 'e-commerce Chapter' To Boost Malaysia’s Digital Economy

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) has introduced the “E-Commerce Chapter” to enhance collaboration between key players in the e-commerce industry and regulatory bodies.

This newly established chapter aims to provide a platform for continuous dialogue, policy development, and regulatory harmonisation, with the objective of promoting sustained growth in Malaysia’s e-commerce sector.

MICCI president Christina Tee said the chapter marks an important milestone in strengthening Malaysia's position as a leader in the digital economy. 

She said the chamber is creating a vital bridge between industry players and regulators by fostering open dialogue to meaningfully address industry challenges, champion innovation, and foster inclusive growth. 

“E-commerce has the power to drive economic resilience, and through this chapter, we are committed to building a collaborative and forward-looking ecosystem that benefits all stakeholders, especially in empowering businesses and underserved communities,” she said at the “E-commerce Chapter” launching here today.

The chapter also includes major platforms, namely Shopee, Lazada, and Mudah.my. 

Meanwhile, MICCI and the chapter spokesperson Hafidzi Razali said that this establishment aims to open a space for discussion, share best practices, and ensure that e-commerce companies continue to contribute to the growth and sustainability of the digital economy in Malaysia.

He said this platform does not favour any specific company because its purpose is to be a channel to voice views, concerns, or issues that can be resolved together.

“So, it is more inclusive and not limited to certain companies. It does not act as a middleman but as a platform to voice concerns or explore opportunities together.

“This is because these companies operate in the same business, which has many similarities,” he told reporters after the event.

Earlier, MICCI held a roundtable discussion on strategies to ensure that the growth of e-commerce benefits all segments of society, particularly the underserved groups such as rural micro, small, and medium enterprises and women entrepreneurs, while enhancing Malaysia’s economic resilience.

The discussion highlighted key areas such as driving economic growth, bolstering consumer protection, and supporting a robust logistics sector.
