MELAKA, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- Efforts to position Melaka as an international hub for halal products will be further strengthened, focusing not only on food but also expanding into the tourism sector, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.
As a state renowned for tourism, he said Melaka should broaden its halal offerings to the tourism industry, providing opportunities for entrepreneurs and businesses in the halal sector.
“We have a wide range of products that can be branded as halal. This expansion will help build confidence among Muslim consumers to enjoy a variety of halal products.
“And as we all know, the Genting Dream cruise ship, which includes Melaka as one of its destinations, has begun using halal products on board, attracting more Muslim tourists,” he told reporters after officiating the Melaka International Halal Festival (MIHF) 2024 at the Melaka International Trade Centre here today.
Ab Rauf also urged halal industry players to embrace social media platforms to market their high-quality products rather than relying solely on traditional methods like supermarkets.
He said the state government is aiming to increase the number of halal-certified products to further enhance tourists’ confidence.
Meanwhile, Ab Rauf said the two-day MIHF24 has attracted over 250 halal industry players from various sectors, including participants from more than 10 countries and over 30 companies in the halal tourism industry.
