KUALA BERANG, Dec 24 (Bernama) -- A new three-star hotel on Pulau Poh in Kenyir Geopark here, set to open in the second quarter of next year, is poised to boost Terengganu's tourism industry.

Deputy state secretary (Development) Datuk Tun Ahmad Faisal Tun Abdul Razak said the hotel, which began construction in 2017 with an investment of RM97.4 million, will help drive tourism growth in Hulu Terengganu by attracting both local and international visitors.

“Until November this year, Kenyir Geopark has welcomed 360,240 visitors, up from 218,157 last year.

“With the opening of this hotel, we anticipate even greater tourist influx, further developing the region’s tourism and enhancing the livelihoods of the local community,” he told reporters after a ceremony to handover the hotel at Kenyir Geopark here today.

The eight-storey hotel, with a capacity of 150 rooms, will be managed by state-owned company, Kumpulan Terengganu Inc.

Tun Ahmad Faisal, who also heads the State Economic Planning Unit, added that the hotel is designed with sustainability in mind, incorporating eco-friendly elements to preserve the natural beauty of Lake Kenyir.

It will also feature modern facilities, including a convention hall, restaurant, swimming pool, and a children's playground.

The hotel is part of the larger development plan for the Lake Kenyir Duty-Free Zone, which already includes amenities like a cargo jetty and the Iconic Bridge, open to the public.

The hotel’s construction faced several delays, including the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
