IPOH, Dec 27 (Bernama) -- The Stray Animal Feeders of Malaysia (SAFM) has condemned the killing of a dog with an arrow in Ladang Malaya, Selama, on Dec 22.
The dog, named Kutty, was reportedly attacked by a worker simply for wandering into a different lane.
"Kutty suffered severe injuries and ultimately succumbed to this inhumane attack.
“Acts like this cannot be overlooked, they challenge the very principles of decency and kindness. Justice must be served swiftly and decisively," SAFM said in a statement on its official Facebook page.
The group highlighted that the incident violated the Animal Welfare Act 2015 and urged witnesses to come forward, stressing that community involvement is crucial to bringing the perpetrator to justice.
SAFM called on the public to report such incidents to the nearest police station and lodge complaints with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) to initiate formal investigations.
The group also urged the police and DVS to prioritise the case, demanding strict enforcement of Section 30 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which prescribes penalties of up to RM100,000 in fines, three years’ imprisonment, or both.
Despite numerous awareness campaigns, SAFM lamented that animal cruelty remains prevalent, citing weak enforcement of laws as a key issue allowing offenders to evade punishment.
"This incident is a grim reminder of the urgent need to strengthen our laws and ensure stricter, more effective enforcement. We must end this cycle of violence against animals," SAFM added.
