Malaysia-Argentina Ties Set To Soar — Ambassador Nur Azman’s 2025 Message

01/01/2025 10:18 PM

KUALA LUMPUR, 1 Jan (Bernama) – As Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship, Malaysian Ambassador to Argentina, Nur Azman Rahim, has expressed confidence that the ties between Malaysia and Argentina are not only on the right track but are poised to reach new heights.

“Let us continue working together to achieve this shared vision. Malaysia-Argentina: The Ties That Bind (Malasia-Argentina: Los Lazos Que Nos Unen),” he said in his New Year message, which was delivered entirely in Spanish.

In his message, Nur Azman reflected on the milestones achieved by Malaysia and Argentina over the past year, highlighting significant progress in political, economic, and socio-cultural collaboration between the two nations.

He underscored the importance of 2024 as a year that strengthened bilateral ties.

A notable achievement was the first high-level visit in five years by Argentina’s former Foreign Minister, Diana Mondino, to Malaysia in March.

He said the visit marked a pivotal moment, renewing diplomatic ties and establishing the Malaysia-Argentina Friendship Group as a testament to growing mutual cooperation.

On economic achievements,  Nur Azman said Malaysia reaffirmed its commitment to Argentina’s energy aspirations, celebrating the 10th anniversary of Petronas’ operations in the country.

“We are also preparing to welcome Aerodyne, a new Malaysian investor, which will soon enter the Argentine market, bringing innovative solutions in the field of drone technology,” he said.

With Malaysia’s Halal Certification being premium and globally recognised, the ambassador said halal cooperation remained steadfast.

“This was exemplified by the impressive participation of 125 Argentine companies in the Halal Seminar: Export to Malaysia, held in September in Buenos Aires.

“Building on the success of the seminar, an Argentinian company participated in this year’s MIHAS and the Global Halal Summit in Kuala Lumpur, “underscoring our shared commitment to advancing Halal standards globally,” he said.

Further strengthening economic relations, the Malaysia chapter of the MERCOSUR-ASEAN Chamber of Commerce (MACC) was launched in Kuala Lumpur.

“The establishment of MACC reflects the strong interest of business communities in both regions to explore and expand collaborative opportunities,” the ambassador said.

Malaysia’s economic engagements in Argentina through PETRONAS, IJM Corporation, and Seri Inderajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd position Malaysia as one of the largest investors in the country.

These investments total more than US$15 billion, while total trade between Malaysia and Argentina in 2023 amounted to US$1.6 billion.
