FBM KLCI Ends Morning Session 0.15 Pct Lower

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 3 (Bernama) -- Bursa Malaysia’s benchmark index ended the morning session on a negative note after the previous day’s profit-taking activities and in line with Wall Street’s weaker overnight performance. 

At 12.30 pm, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia KLCI (FBM KLCI) slipped 2.43 points, or 0.15 per cent, to 1,630.44, compared with Thursday’s close of 1,632.87. 

The index had initially opened 2.07 points higher at 1,634.94 and traded between 1,628.77 and 1,636.08 during the session.

On the broader market, however, gainers outpaced decliners 506 to 476, while 464 counters were unchanged, 909 untraded, and 11 suspended.

Turnover stood at 2.40 billion units worth RM1.48 million.

Hong Leong Investment Bank expects continued profit-taking activities in the near term to neutralise the overbought technical readings with major supports located at the 1,623-level. 

Among the heavyweights, Hong Leong Bank increased four sen to RM20.46, CelcomDigi advanced three sen to RM3.68, Press Metal went up five sen to RM4.88, Petronas Chemicals gained 13 sen to RM4.99 and YTL Power rose eight sen to RM4.47. CIMB was flat at RM8.13, Maybank shed six sen to RM10.12, and Public Bank went down two sen to RM4.52.

Of the active stocks,  Velocity Capital edged up half-a-sen to seven sen, Widad rose 1.5 sen to 5.5 sen, Dagang Nexchange gained 2.5 sen to 42.5 sen, and WCT Holdings rose 6.5 sen to RM1.02. Datasonic was flat at 42 sen, and JCY International eased one sen to 56.5 sen. 

On the index board, the FBM Emas Index slipped 2.48 points to 12,534.10, the FBM Emas Shariah Index decreased 9.20 points to 12,540.58, and the FBMT 100 Index shed 7.36 points to 12,206.46.   

The FBM 70 Index garnered 28.90 points to 18,858.83, and the FBM ACE Index bounced 4.84 points to 5,436.94.   

By sector, the Plantation Index dwindled 24.92 points to 7,598.51, but the Industrial Products and Services Index gained 0.62 of-a-point to 174.75. The Financial Services Index lost 30.37 points to 19,030.08, and the Energy Index improved by 15.33 points to 845.75.
