KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 6 (Bernama) -- The 73rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Malaysian Youth Council (MYC) will be held at the World Trade Centre here, from Jan 9 to 11.

MYC secretary-general Hasnul Haniff Harun stated that the meeting will, among other things, elect the council leadership for the 2024-2026 term, covering the positions of president, deputy president, vice presidents, secretary-general, treasurer, and executive committee members.

He added that this will be the final term before the enforcement of the Youth Societies and Youth Development (Amendment) Act 2019 [Act A1602], which will set the age limit for youth leadership to under 30 years old by January 2026.

“This AGM is crucial to discuss issues related to youth development in Malaysia, including planning, policies, and activities to be carried out throughout the year.

“Nominations for contested positions will take place on Jan 10, with voting scheduled for Jan 11,” he said in a statement today.

Hasnul Haniff noted that 399 delegates are eligible to participate in this year’s AGM, and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is expected to officiate the meeting at 2.30 pm this Friday.

He added that MYC president Mohd Izzat Afifi Abdul Hamid will deliver the keynote address, which is expected to cover topics such as youth leadership development and empowerment, the holistic restructuring of youth associations, the internationalisation of Malaysian youth, as well as current national issues.

As the organisation marks its 77th anniversary, Hasnul Haniff revealed that they have established MYC Vision 2048: Towards 100 Years of MYC, a strategic plan aimed at strengthening the holistic development of the youth movement.

"Many initiatives are set to roll out in 2025, particularly to reinforce the grassroots youth leadership agenda, and MYC has a key role in driving programmes in preparation for Malaysia’s ASEAN chairmanship in 2025," he said.

He emphasised that MYC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, will continue to lead efforts to protect the rights and champion the interests of the nation’s youth.
