BENTONG, Jan 10 (Bernama) -- The Housing and Local Government Ministry (KPKT) will expand its collaboration with public institutions of higher learning and related agencies in efforts to strengthen the housing and local government sectors in the country.
Its deputy minister, Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu, said the initiative through the Housing and Local Government Training Institutes (I-KPKT), aims to advance research, development, and policy implementation in these sectors.
"Through this collaboration and initiative, we are confident that we will be able to produce more professionals, researchers, and leaders with high skills in related fields, who can contribute to the nation's development and the well-being of the people.
"(In addition), this will also propel I-KPKT to become a training institute under KPKT, playing an important role in providing training for personnel of local authorities (PBT) and agencies involved across the country," she said during her speech at the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing between KPKT, represented by I-KPKT, and Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), and the International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM) at I-KPKT Bukit Tinggi today.
The signing was witnessed by Aiman Athirah, while KPKT was represented by its secretary-general, Datuk Wira M Noor Azman Taib.
Aiman Athirah shared that the strategic collaboration would further strengthen I-KPKT’s role as the main information centre, reference point, and provider of advisory services to local authorities, as well as one of the initiatives towards achieving Centre of Excellence (CoE) status.
"Each university involved brings its own strengths and expertise. For example, UUM specialises in local government, UiTM in built environment, particularly urban management and development, and UIAM in built environment and Islamic environment.
"The combination of these expertises not only strengthens the foundation of the collaboration but also opens up vast opportunities for us to explore new and fresh potential in the future," she said.
She added that KPKT is steadfast in the principle that education and research are the key to formulating more effective and practical policies.
"By leveraging expertise and innovation, we can not only meet the people's needs more effectively but also develop sustainable and inclusive policies and solutions.
"This commitment reflects KPKT’s aspiration to continue being a catalyst for the development of Malaysia MADANI, ensuring the well-being of the people and shaping a brighter future for the next generation," she said.
