SHAH ALAM, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Norashikin graced the opening ceremony of Sime Darby's Elmina Lakeside Mall and Elmina Outdoor Sculpture Museum today.

Upon arrival at 10.15 am, Sultan Sharafuddin and Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin were greeted by Sime Darby Property group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Azmir Merican and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari.

Their Royal Highnesses then proceeded to tour the exhibition, before being briefed by Azmir on completed Sime Darby Property's projects as well as those currently underway.

The Selangor Sultan then delivered his royal address to launch the lakeside mall and sculpture museum officially.

In a statement, Azmir said the mall, situated on a 6.96-hectare (17.2-acre) site, has been operational since August last year, serving as a dynamic retail and recreational hub for Bandar Elmina and its surrounding areas.

He said the mall's open design concept reduces the use of air conditioning, contributing to a lower carbon footprint, while also featuring bicycle paths, planned solar panel installations, and 16 electric vehicle charging stations.

Azmir said 99 per cent of the lots at the mall had been leased and that more than 180,000 visitors flocked the mall during the opening week.

He added that the mall registers an average of 640,000 visitors monthly.

"We greatly appreciate the exceptional response from both tenants and visitors, which has strengthened the position of this shopping mall as the preferred retail and leisure destination for the community.

"The strategic additions in Bandar Elmina allow us to integrate retail with nature, creating a unique shopping experience that reflects our vision to build spaces that meet real needs, foster connections, and support modern lifestyles with a focus on well-being," he said.

Azmir said Sime Darby Property has also established the sculpture museum to provide a dedicated space for local contemporary artists as well as regional and international talents to showcase their artworks.

"This open-air sculpture museum represents a synthesis of artistic expression, sustainability, and innovative urban design within Bandar Elmina, enhancing community spaces and experiences for residents. Its inaugural exhibition will feature the sculpture The Wealthy Horizons by Abdul Multhalib Musa," he said.
